The town of Hurley is really a combination of two areas, West Hurley and Hurley. West Hurley is located just a few minutes from the center of Woodstock. Most of the homes in West Hurley that are on the right side of Route 28 are located in neighborhood subdivisions and have small lots. The homes on the other side of Route 28 tend to have more land and have a more rural feel. West Hurley doesn’t have an actual town center and most people living there use Woodstock as their town for Shopping and restaurants. West Hurley is only 10-15 minutes from the center of Kingston. On the other hand, Hurley is located just south of Kingston and consists mostly of homes in a neighborhood setting. The town of Hurley is really one intersection where one can find the Town offices, a gas station and a restaurant. Most residents of Hurley use Kingston as their town. Hurley also has the Ashokan Reservoir and new rail trail and much of its land is under conservation by the Catskill Watershed and the NYC Department of Environmental Protection which tends to result in lower property taxes compared to nearby Woodstock or Kingston.
